More from Ohio Linuxfest 2009

A few more observations from Linuxfest.

1 – There are some talented people out there without work right now. In a struggling economy it becomes more important than ever to care with who you hire. Perhaps it’s time to choose talent over a good resume and passion instead of experience. This doesn’t mean hire anybody who’s excited about working but often enough companies can’t seem to look past the resume.

2 – Open Source seems to breed creativity. I’ve heard and seen more ideas coming to Linuxfest than most other conferences. Not all of them good but there are more people here thinking outside the box and that’s refreshing.

3 – Chris Teodorski gave a very insightful presentation on the OWASP Top 10 that was very well received. He obviously had a good understanding of web app security and did a great job of making it understandable for those who may not have had any security background. His battle cry, “Input Validation!”. Very good job Chris.

Thats all for this year. If you haven’t been to Linuxfest in your area be sure to try to make the next one. It’s definitely an experience.

Matt
